Lanzarote
is the most interesting of all the Canary Islands. It is called
"Island of the Volcanos" because of the frequent
eruptions experienced between 1730 and 1736. Today the island
is a very special holiday attraction for its golden, white
and black beaches.
Lanzarote, including the small islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza,
Montaña Clara, Roque del Oeste and Roque del Este,
covers 900 sq kms running 60 kms north to south and only 20
kms at it´s widest point.
The
island enjoys an average temperature of 22ºC all year-round
due to it`s advantageous location in the Tropic of Cancer.
Puerto del Carmen
The
six kilometre-long beaches of golden sands on shores of
the Atlantic in Puerto del Carmen are undoubtably the magnet
which draw so many holidaymakers to the resort every year.
Although the waters are considered among the most tranquil
of the Archipielago and can be enjoyed by swimmers and other
water sport enthusiasts certain parts of the coast attract
sufficient wind for the practise of windsurfing.
The beach avenue. Avenida de las Playas, is the resort´s
main road.
Commercial
premises, shops, restaurants, bars and night clubs line
its entire length.
There
are over one hundred restaurants with food to suit every
taste and every pocket from fast food to gourmet. Also a
large variety of shops, boutiques and bazaars stocked with
everything from duty free electronics to local arts and
crafts and designer clothes, shoes or jewellery.
A
walk along this beautifully landscaped promenade enjoying
the sea breeze whilst admiring the scenery is an absolute
must.
